My mid-80's 50HP Mercury Outboard starts up and runs fine. I can rev it up in neutral no problem.
When i kick it into gear and start going I have no issues, but once I reach approximately wake speed, the motor jerks in a repititive type of knocking, getting faster the more I accelerate.
It's like a thud and the motor jumps, but it doesn't miss, I'm positive it's somewhere in the lower end, however after running it like this multiple times, the gear lube came out with no shavings at all.
I have taken it to a couple different boat shops, and they can't even get the boat to do it in the tank, saying it blows the water out of the tank no problem, leading me to believe it's something with the torque of pushing the whole boat.
Help?! My next idea is to get a new prop, although the one I have appears fine.
