Bought my first boat and cant id the year of the motor and not real sure who the manufacturer is to get parts. On the engine cover there are two names that are glued on one is US Marine power , the other is Force. also a big 50 on the side, im guessin 50 horsepower? My model # is 508F90D. made in Hartford WI. It runs but havent been in open water yet. Just in my drive way . All the linkage on the side of the motor seems tight and stiff hard to throttle up. not the carb .all the rods on the side of the motor, cables ok. Want to know all I can about this motor so i can eventually get a repair manual to keep it operational. Any one know what a throttle friction knob does? function? This is all new to me. thanks.

Re: motor identificatoin

What you have is a 1990 50Hp Force made by US Marine. US Marine also owned Bayliner. They started as Kissel outboards who mostly made cars. Then they were West Bend who also makes kitchen stuff. Next they were owned by Chrysler from the mid 60s to mid 80s. US Marine bought out Chrysler and around 1990 by Brunswick who also owns Mercury.

Throttle Friction places a load on the throttle lever to keep it from slowly returning to idle all by itself. If it's too tight, the throttle will be stiff.

Force 50HP 1990.
Clymer Manuals are better than some others.
Original is good to.

I-Boats has lots of parts.

The people here are great with any help you need.

Good Luck,
