hi to all, need help, recently traded a 4cyl 40 for what I thought to be a 3cyl 60(both '98's) the new motor seems bigger,and has a bigger cowl that says it's a 60hp....problem is,the tag with the model&s/n say it's a 40hp......how can I be sure it's really a 60? thank you.

Well freighthauler, :welcome: to iboats....

Two things you can do to help us ID your new to you engine. First post the model and serial numbers on here and take a few picture of the entire engine with and without the cowling installed. That way we can try to verify what you have... JMHO!

freighthauler, when you say the engine sticker, are you referring to the ID plate on the unit that attaches to the transom? Because maybe somebody swapped them out for some reason. If it is the engine cowling stating a different HP rating, that easily could be because somebody bought another cowl to replace the original one that could have gotten damaged. :noidea:

yes,the id plate(sticker) on the unit that hangs on the transom....has s/n that identifies it as a 60, but also has 40 on it.
