Re: motor height?

When you say hopping, are you talking about porpoising?

rlguns,

Basically what porpoising is telling you is that you are over trimmed "up". One of several things is happening. 1. Your engine doesn't have the power to hold the bow up. 2. Your prop doesn't have sufficient bite to hold the bow up. 3. You are front heavy on the boat which is relative to the last two.

I would try to get rid of the porp. first. You're too high now.

Re: motor height?

I do trim it up quite a bit before it starts porposes. The rpms never get past 4700 .I dont think they will unless i raise it up out of the water.Ive tried a 21 and 19 with no diffrence whatsoever.

Re: motor height?

Riguns...your porpoising problem is most likely caused by trimming up too high. I have a similar boat/motor setup and I run a 17" prop when I am loaded or pulling a skier. A 19" prop will get me to wot with no load. I don't have p/t so porpoising is not a problem, when I first set up the boat I raised motor enough to make it jump real good. I think yo are over propped. See if you can find a 17" to try out...just a Thought

Re: motor height?

My problem is not the porposing. It is that i cant get pasr 4700 rpms and 42 mph.Have tried 2 props with exact results.I am thinking my motor needs lowered but not sure.
