I need some help...I have a 1986 Mercury 150. Last year I rebuilt the motor due to a burned up cylinder...Now the motor stalls when I am taking off and dies..I have cleaned the carbs and do not know what to do... It is strange, at times it is fine and then it will not perform at all...If any suggestions. please help. :)

Compression should be app 100 psi. Check all fuel lines including anti-siphon valve. Your post indicates tha problem is intermittent, if so I would think ignition. You need a peak reading meter or meter with DVA function for this. You got meter, I got specs,

Died you regain full compression, or is it low?
I am assuming you have clean tanks with fresh fuel in them, and that the fuel line has no leaks in it. Does it restart easily?
It may be fouling the plugs, and they get too much fuel when you gass it, so check the mixture adjustments. One or more may be set too rich.
If you ease-up the throttle, does it still stumble?

No, I have been kinda sidetracked, but I hear the snook are thick in the river (Caloosahatchee). If I get this other boat outta the driveway, I can install my new seats, and be all set for a trip out to the sound.
By Immokalee, you Lake Trafford? Bass?

I too had the same problem with my 100 merc. turned out to be carb settings. remember our 4 cylinders use a 2-4 carb setting. the top two are used during idle, the bottom two have no low speed jets, so check your low speed jets, sounds to me they might been a little lean..also on another note, I'm also rebuilding my 100 merc. because of a burned up piston, but it xas only the #2 piston. Did you have the same situation? good luck on the carbs...
