Motoguide foot pedal problem

I have a motorguide lazer 62lb ES with foot pedal...today i went out and i had problem with the foot pedal...the motor has the variable speed with the slide 1-10...it would only move on 10 but it moved at the speed as if it were on 1...when i drop the slide back under 10 it turns off and wont run...so it only runs on 10 but at the speed of 1(not enough to move the boat)

any ideas? thanks
