seahorse
dont remember the part number but we called manteo marine and causeway marine and gave them the engine model and both said it was NLA, called rapair and they said they dont make one for it yet.
could be someone typed in some numbers wrong. I just turn in the tickets and the parts appear. I am not priviledeged with the task of hunting parts.
I do recall it was about $259 though. it was on the shipping invoice, but like I say they dont let me order much except volvo and merc stuff.
parts guys get a bit lost with sterndrive stuff.

Rediculous parts prices are not limited to marine stuff. I have a defective catalytic converter in my Nissan. The dealer wants $600.00 for the part and 3 hours for the labor (@ $89.00/hr) to put it in. I can get one off of the internet for $235.00. Go figgure!!

If you can find the right diameter, use a brake wheel cylinder boot, (the old brake shoe type) might have to punch a hole in it for the shaft.

Boat Buoy, take that part to your local John Deere Dealership. Don't tell them what its for until they ask. I'm willing to bet they have one similar or identical.

Don't feel too bad. I just paid $60.00 each for two sets of points for a 1968 85h.p Evinrude. They aren't made any more. I'm going to put a transistor ignition on it to unload the points since someone already got rid of the expensive, failure-prone ignition pack and put in an automotive ignition which works a hardship on the points.

BoatBuoy: Look's like you solved the problem. I once knew a guy that had the rubber diaphram cover on a early 3 cylinder ignition vacuam switch develop a crack, he simply put a condom over the cracked cover.
