I need the little rubber boot which goes over the end of the choke solenoid. Part # is 303792. It's for a '56 30hp, but it's the same part # as my '77 35hp. Been using that same part forever. It's price - $22.95. That's about what I paid for the carb kit and impeller combined.

Far as I know this part is no longer being made ... so any price is probably a good one.I can't tell from the parts book, but can you run without it ?

Just think about a spring for the gear in an old stringer drive.$340.And you can't run without it,or even improvise.

DHP

It is not just boats. GMC wants $50+ for a horn that can pe purchased at an auto parts store for nder $10. And that is for a relatively new vehicle.

Re: Most outrageous part price yet

I just checked my book. The part number is correct (303792) but it has been unavailable since 1994 and at that time listed for $5.00. I'll check my old carburetor pile to see if I might have one and get back to you.

Momentarily off topic.... If there's any expert Ford mechanics online, drop me a email at my address below. I have a problem with my 1988 Ford F150 (302 V8, Auto, AC) racing like mad in idle & park with a slipping/slow shift from about 0 to say 20 mph.

Joe,
This is the part no. for solenoid cover for 1977 35hp also. When I do a search at ishopmarine.com for 303792, all indications are that it's available at $22.95. Help, I'm confused. I'd pay 5.00 for one in a minute.

boat buoy, you're looking for a part thats been unavailable since 94 thats 11 years. you better grab it at any price. Joe had the same problem with my 85 f150. sold it last thursday, more money for boats.

I checked what I have left. Sorry to say I don't have any of those covers left. They should be available (used) at various outboard repair shops though.

man you outboard guys kill me.
whine about a 5 dollar piece of rubber.
ya outta buy volvo parts, a 5 dollar piece of rubber is 15 dollars and the blue and white box is another 40 dollars :) :) .
but I am with the rest, if its NLA its a sellers market. seems BRP is not going to support OMC stuff.
I needed a trigger for a 94 70HP a few weeks back and BRP says its NLA. lucky we found one at another dealer and he shipped it to us, at retail no less :) :) .
seems BRP is making OMC stuff NLA faster than merc made chysler and force stuff NLA.

I've said it before, and I'll say again, You should try getting some of this stuff here in Australia. A good second hand coil for my bigtwin, $25.00 . The carb kit 'without' a replacement float, $90.00 .

If the rubber boot is $5.00, then get it. If you don't, how much will the whole solenoid cost to replace?

Re: Most outrageous part price yet

I think there's a misunderstanding here. The boot is not $5.00. According to Joe, it WAS $5.00 when it was available. From ishopmarine it still seems to be available, but for $22.95. If it was only $5.00 and available, this thread would never have started.

Re: Most outrageous part price yet

Boatbuoy, have you checked with your local BRP parts dealer? The two shops that are within 25 miles of my house always have the same parts that ishopmarine offers. The price is usually the same after you add in shipping or within 2-5 dollars of the asking price before shipping(depends on the part). If you can live with $22.95 then you may be able to get it local and save on shipping. Have you checked ebay? If all else fails call your local shop and see if they have any used ones laying around and ask if they will sell them to you.

good luck
-TR

Thanks all for the responses. I checked my local BRP dealer. He can get one for $20. I'm thinking I may try to adapt a brake wheel-cylinder dust boot or something like that.

There's a 40hp carb on ebay w/cover but it would still cost about $20.00 w/shipping, you could contact, might sell ya just the cover?

ebay carb

MCM
Thanks for looking, but here's what I'm looking for.
solenoidcover.jpg
It's the image on the left, the one on the right is what it should be worth. This one is as brittle as a piece of glass and inhibits the solenoid actuator from functioning.

Well I paid £4.75p for an AGA 20amp fuse for my 1994 Evinrude, I asked for 4 and was astonished with the bill, last week I went to local trailer shop for rollers they had them all except one the double wheeled roller, it was ordered one morning and arrived the next day, price of roller just under £15 price of postage also £15, £30 for one roller, that came from company Maypole in England who seemingly charge every customer £15 delivery regardless what they order!! Rip off or what? J.B.D.

And I was tweaked when it cost me $8.00 or so to replace the spring for my choke solenoid this summer, thought it was worth about the same.

OK, here's my red-neck solution. It may not last long, but it only cost 88¢ and it works:

Sounds like a possible vacuum leak Joe. I'm sure you've probably already been told that though.

Rodbolt,

By trigger, do you mean the timer base assembly? (Merc calls it a trigger) If so, that is part number 584804, for $183, and is in stock at all 5 BRP parts warehouses. Someone may have given you incorrect info on the parts situation.

If you are refering to a different part, please let me know, and I'll do some checking. BRP has been great in keeping common parts for older motors.
