I just bought a boat with a 95 90HP motor. I have always had I/O before and not much experience with outboards. I was told by a friend that I could change the carbs and exhaust plate from a 120 or 135 and increase the power. He said the bore and stroke was the same. Is that all you have to do? Sounds too easy. If not how can you get more power out of the 90?
Thanks!

Now, which 1995 90 do you have? A crossflow or the 60* looper? Nothing from a 120 looper will fit either the crossflow or the 60* looper. Well....maybe the spark plugs. Which 135 is he talking about?

How can I tell which 90 I have? The model is E90TLEOR & the SN#G03802455 if that helps.

Ok, that's the crossflow 90. No matter what you do you'll never get it to produce the torque of the 90 looper and it'll never be close to the torque of a 120, 130 or 140 looper. There are a few things you can do though. First would be to identify your rig & set up. Get it as efficient as possible with the motor as is.

Tell us about your rig. What hull, what prop, top rpm with an average load and accurate top speed. That's your baseline. Once we calculate the % of slip we can go from there.
