More mobility ideas?

My husband has a 17’ Lowe fishing boat. Although he has plenty of upper body strength, he can no longer stand up without pulling his body weight up with his arms. He is a big man. I have seen him pull up on the steering column and almost pull it out of the console. Currently, he is sitting on multiple cushions and pulling himself up with a rope attached to the bow of the boat. Does anyone have ideas that would work better?
