moisture meter info please !

Can someone please tell me how to read a moisture meter like
a "Tramex Skipper" type ?
the top scale goes from 0 t0 30 % H20
and the bottom one goes from 0 to 100,
and it is written,,, "Comparable"
one of the websites on the subject say that
if a meter reads 25%, it means that the actual moisture content
is 3% ??!!? can someone out there in the boating world please
translate ?

That's all I can dig up. The video is for the building construction version, but the application is going to be the same, though the description of the two scales is still a little vague.

Watching the video again, I think you are concerned with the top scale for moisture content in the actual surface that you are checking. The lower scale seems to be a straight 0-100 scale that tells you what range you are at on the scale ( say 19 % humidity is also at 50% of the range of the meter ).

More specifically, if the lower meter reads 25%, then that is going to read 3% on the upper meter for the range of the device.

The device is going to read the conductivity of the water in whatever it is you are reading, which is why you have different settings ( salt being more conductive than fresh water ). Saturation probably occurs at 30% which is why the meters range doesn't go above that ( instead of 100% ), so if the meter reads 30% H20, then you have 100% saturation of the material.

the rhing is,
I was told that when the meter reads 25%H2O,
it is if fact 3% actual moisture content and
"80" comparable, what ever that means !

I guess it depends on the way they consider moisture in wood/FRP boats. The way you describe it is confusing, particularly since the meter only has 2 scales...what you describe means there should be 3.

Since there are 2 scales, I'd be more concerned with the percentage reading.

We use moisture meters for my work ( hardwood floors ) and we use a very basic one with probes. If there is more than 9% moisture, we let the floors dry out more, especially when dealing with moisture damaged areas.

That particular meter is much more complicated/accurate than what we use, but I think you are only needing to find out if you are wet or dry.

Besides, if you only had an actual reading of 3% moisture when the meter read 25%, then what good is the meter if it only goes up to 30%?!
