I have a 2012 Pro-line sport20 that I am not completely happy with. The stern has no room for fishing. To make more room the molded in stern seats would be removed and the engine well wall would need to be moved back about 8 to 10 inches

Can this be done economically or should I try to sell my boat and get one that suits me ( like a Catamaran)

Re: Modify or replace

You can do anything to a boat.....

But I would be very hesitant to start tearing into it to to gain 10 inches of space. Looks to me like you have some storage and mechanical/electrical components hidden behind those seats - so the space behind them is being used. If you are set on doing this, get a quote from a reputable local dealer. My guess is that the cost will be prohibitive, and you will devalue the boat in the process. My 2c is this is a bad idea.

Re: Modify or replace

i wouldn't go chopping up a 2 year old well made boat. sell or trade. did you buy it new?

you may compromose structural integrity.

inless you get a straight inboard, the transoms are not clear in most boats. the carolina skiff j series and similar designs are open but you still end up with stuff back there. Maybe Parker is open?

With a cat and two motors I don't think you gain much.

I don't like the European transoms now found on most CC boats; I like the straight down design, but it seems you have to have a boat from before about 2006 to find them.

Maybe you need a bigger boat. I find I never fish off the transom directly, maybe the corner, but I always land the fish along side.

There is no cure for two foot-itice except buying a bigger boat.

I would take a Euro transom with a door over dragging a #400 tuna over a gunnel any day of the week

I gave up on CCs as they have no stern space until 28' or more. My 205EX has 66 sq ft in the stern.

^^^ THAT

The splashwell and all it's components carry structural loads. You MIGHT be ok modifying it, but then again if you don't know what you're doing you could run into big problems (like a boat that flexes too much and doesn't handle well). Plus, to make a modification look good is a lot of work. You'll be time and dollars ahead to either live with what you have or else sell it and figure out what will make you happy.

It's a basically new boat. Now that you have additional experience you'll find what you want it your next one.

I bought it new and as we are fishing with just two people it is crowded. The leaning post on my boat has a back rest with four rod holders on it. You have to lean over so you dont hit your head on the rods.
You are right about the straight down design. Even in the cat class, the earlier modesl have the straight down transom. Your could have a party with the space they have.
For now I guess I will have to deal with it until I can sell this and get another (prefered cat) boat.
