I'm sure that this question is answered somewhere in the forums but, I can't find it! I need to know as much information as I can get on engine model number 6CB2009. I know that it is 65hp but after that I am lost.

WOW that model number just doesn't coinside with anything I've seen.

Are you sure it's Johnson/Evinrude ?

Almost looks Mariner or old Yamaha.

Can you post more info ?

I don't actually have the engine in my posession yet but, I am told that is the model number and the serial number is 12818. The guy that sold it to me says that he knows nothing about boats or engines. The picture that I have clearly states Johnson 65hp though!

Looks to me like a 1968 model VXHL-14B. Can't really see the lower unit very well though. That would be the model number for the one with the "heavy duty" lower unit.

I haven't sent any money but, I am committed. Mybe I SHOULD be committed but, if all else fails there is a trailer and boat with it for $160. I'm not expecting much and don't suppose that I'll be getting much. It's not a big investment though and I will be doing all my own work.

Maybe I'm just a mad Englishman but it's an adventure of sorts. :)

i'd chance $160 on it. it is obviously a vintage boat with the cable/pulley steering. those engines were tough to kill, but the electrical power pack are expensive. it's the kind of project i like. sows ear to silk purse. would like to see the rest of it. could be a really great find.

I am going to pick it up today. I'll take some more photos and post them on here. I'll also try to get some more identification off the engine. I have my work cut out, of that I am sure. I have VERY little money though and this is the only way that I have a chance to get afloat. I'll keep everyone updated on how the project goes.

I'm uploading them to my website as we speak and I will add a link here as soon as I am done. I'm also going to use the website to keep a project page up to date. Thanks for the tip though. I need all the help I can get. Help is ALWAYS appreciated.

All the pertinent pics are now on the site. As the project progresses I will add more to the webite. I'm planning on adding some videos and other boating related articles. If you'd like me to add your link or advertisement there get in touch!

Re: Model number angst apology

Wejust got homewith the boat. Just pulled the engine over and it's not seized, woohoo, a good start at least. I'll take somephotos tomorrow and get them on here asap. The floor is no good but I can soon put a new one in. The trailer is in pretty good condition other than some rust. I'll try and fire up the motor in the morning, fingers crossed everyone :). It needs a lot of work on the boat itself where the wood has rotted away but, all in all, I think I got a pretty sweet deal. If the motor starts in the morning I'm gonna feint!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Model number angst apology

My dad is a boat "nut" so I know not to start it without water. I'll let it turn over a few times in the morning. If it doesn't start then the first place I will look is the gummed up carbs. Do you have a link to your post please?
