Model 856X4L... cigarette lighter works but not for everything

i can't use my cell phone charger or my portable tv. in fact i think my cell charger shorted out. my air compressor works fine and so does the lighter itself.

i'm thinking a loose ground or short but how do i find out?

It's neither short nor loose ground if your compressor and lighter work reliably in the socket. Despite the apparent standard configuration of lighter sockets, there are slight differences between units made by different manufacturers. Try a dedicated accessory outlet (the kind you can't use with a lighter).

yes, thank you. it has to be the the phone and tv unit's themselves. i do like the dedicated outlet idea. can you give me some suggestions. Thx dave

It's not the phone or the TV...it's the 12v lighter. They are made to work with lighters and not all 12v appliances work in them (depends on the length and style of the plug). If you don't smike, switch it out for a 12v power port and it will work on everything.
