Missing serial and model numbers

I picked up an older merc 7.5 thunderbolt outboard a few months ago and the if plate is missing. On the side of the block there is a stamp that says ser. No. 6 22 9 . I'm assuming this is the serial number but I can't find a listing in the numerous sites I've visited any help would be awesome thanks

Post picture of your motor.----That number is NOT the serial #

Look on the top of the block, a serial Nr. looks like [eg.] - "4085864". Yes a picture of the cowling will help.
