missing 3.0

hey guys i amnew to this boating thing. i bought an 85 omc cobra bass bomber it has a 3.0 omc i/o with cobra stern drive. the problem i am having is with the motor. it seems like its cutting out and it has a very hard time getting to plane when its on the water. i have replaced everything as far as the ignition goes and i rebuilt the carb. i checked all the switches i could find as well as the wiring and it all check ok any help would be great. ohh yeah at wop i am at about 3000 rpm and 20-25 mph (if the speedo is right) and the tach doesnt work so thats just a geuss its a 14x17 prop with 13 splines <br /><br />thanks

Hmmmmm, tach inop and a miss.<br />Look on the coil on the negative termianl. You should find a gray wire. That goes to the tach. Remove that wire from the coil and try running again. Use a shop tach to check rpm, or just see if it runs better as a first step. With the gray wire removed from the coil, the tach will definatly not work.
