Had mice in our boat over the winter for the last two years. I tried the moth ball trick last year. Not only didn't keep them out...They chewed the half full box that had the top ripped off and used it for their nest. So the boat smelled like moth balls and still had mice to boot. I think they are getting in through the vents on the swimming deck. Next season that deck will be covered with sticky traps. But in your case the poison would be best.
