Re: mercury3.6
Sometimes a pipecleaner inserted into the discharge tube will unstop it.They get plugged-up easily.

The pump is located in the lower unit. It must be removed to R&R the impeller. If this engine is over 2 years old, it is due for a new impeller. Also, there should be a thermostat under a cover on the engine. Some of these mercs have the tstat housing clipped in place (like a master cylinder cover on a car).
The impeller costs about 15buks,the tstat about 9.
The job is kinda hard for the first-time wrench, but not impossable by any means, with the right tools. I strongly advise the purchase of a shop manual,as it will pay for itself. The job will take about 3hours the first time, then 1 any time after that (the old learning curve).
When you have the lower unit off, it's allways a good time to check the lower unit lube and seal condition...Kill two bird with one rock, sort of.
Look for signs of water,or chunks of metal in the lube. Refill it with new outboard gear lube, and use new gaskets on the VENT/FILL screws.
