i have a 2000 mercury 150 xr6 carb motor ive had the motor for two years and without being to lengthy i have replaced most parts on this motor electrical and fuel lines and pump. its a clean motor that runs perfect once its started when i first start the motor in the morning its takes a few moments to crank and turn over no big deal and if i run a few miles shut the motor off and imediately try to restart it no problen turn key its turns right over if i wait 15 min or more to restart the motor it takes full throtle neutral and 7-8 seconds of cranking to turn over and is a rough start. this is way to much stress on starter stator trigger solenoid etc.. any ideas:confused:

Re: mercury150 starting issues

Hey baccarac... I two 150s that are a full of problems. One worked 2 weeks ago and than decided to not start out of the blue - no rime or reason, so this is the life of a boater without the cash to pay "the guy" for maintenance and just enjoy the boat in top shape.

You say you replaced most parts - have you cleaned carbs? If they are in top shape, I'd check timing...
Good luck

The carbs heat soak after sitting for 15 minutes and the gas in the carb perks out into the crankcase and the air intake housing . You turn the motor over but its too rich to start so it takes a few seconds to clear the overly rich mixture out of the crankcase before the motor fires up. Sloppy reeds will do it.
