I'm getting an amazing deal on a lot of mercury and Briggs and Stratton outboards from a local store that were customer returns. I'm getting 2 25hp mercury efi motors, 1 9.9 mercury, and 4 Briggs and Stratton outboards. My question is can I get the mercurys fixed or replaced under warranty. They are less than 7 months old they were bought, used by customer, broke and returned for new replacements. The store does not repair the motors so they get stored in the back room till they decide what to do with them. I know mercurys come with 5 year warranty so I figured I can get them replaced. Am I wrong about it?

Re: Mercury warranty questions

Mercury will not replace a complete motor under warranty. They will pay warranty repair up to a percentage of the motors cost and if not fixed a rep will come in and look at it.

Re: Mercury warranty questions

From just looking and inspecting the engines quickly I found out 1 25hp efi is locked up, the other 25 has oil all over it, the 9.9 looks and appears fine.

I would think the warranties on those motors would only cover the original owners.

Re: Mercury warranty questions

lol.....don't rely on an internet forum for the final answer:

Get the serial numbers and call Mercury, they are the authority. The serial numbers will reduce all doubt. Get the name of the agent etc too.
