I have a 1990 mercury 90 horse 2 stroke outboard. My problem I'm having is, the motor surges when I have it on the muffd. What it does is, it will be idling at around 1100 rpms, and then all of a sudden it might surge up to 1300 or sometimes I can see the rpm drop down to around 1000 or so. Also whenever I turn the motor off, and then restart it, the motor will surge up in rpms then go back down.
This motor used to not do that, it would idle right at 1100 or so rpms on the muffs and did not do the surging.
I did have a problem last year that turned out to be the fuel pump diaphragm had ripped, unfortunately I had taken the carbs off and apart before I found out what the problem was.
Any ideas on what could be causing the surging like that? Thanks
