Hello I have what I was told is a 1992 Mariner 115. It needs a stator and I am trying to find out if it has a 9 or 15 amp stator. How can identify which one it has? By the way, the id tag on the motor is missing making this more difficult. Thanks for any help!

Re: Mercury Stator Amp Identification Help

I'm pretty sure you can use either the 8778 (9) or 9710 (16). The trigger and rectifier/regulator are the same for both. There were two different styles of flywheel but the same stator works. You do want to check the Merc wiring diagram for your engine and make any wiring changes you might need. I don't think there are any but you need to verify that.

If you can, remove yours, the number should be on the part. If not, post a pic and we'll tell you which one you have.

FYI my old 91/100 had the 8778 on it and I put the 9710 on it with no problems.
