Can someone tell me if any of the ignition components from a red band inline 1150 will interchange with the later year blue band 1977?

Take the cowlings off and look for a distributor and coil/switchbox. I have the wiring diagram for the 77 which uses the distributor but not a diagram for the red band (69-70)?

Yes I just didn’t know if I’d be able to take the distributor and switch box from the red band that I was going to buy for parts or fix up (70 I think) and use on my 77 or vice versa…I know there were some changes to the blocks after 71 or 72?

1973 4/6 cyl Merc ign components will interchange with your '77 IL6. Maybe even a 1972 IL 4/6, but you will need to look at the redband and see what it has.

Those older Mercs had the orange coil and the big rectifier with the 3 colors on it. The switchbox was identical, and I think that is the key to compatibility. if it is the same, the components should switch over. The distributor on the early models may have a different exterior casing, but the internals were the same as the '77. You may need to swap them over.

Obviously the wires on the distributor are often bad.
