I have a Mercury 35 outboard (1896 I think) which has been running perfect up till now. I have had it 2 seasons.
Several times I have been accelerating and all the sudden it loses power. If I pull back on the throttle and then re-accelerate it is fine. This has now happened now about 5 times.
I was out yesterday fishing for about 6 hours and it only did it once that whole time.
Otherwise it seems to be running well.
After the first time this happened I dumped all my gas and got fresh thinking it might be a fuel issue and I also replaced the spark plugs and cleaned out the fuel filter.
I am thinking this might be carburetor related but I am not sure. Anyone have any suggestions?
Some extra information that may or may not be related:
When I got it out for the first time this year I had trouble getting it started until I found a post on this forum suggesting I raise the motor and try. Once I did that it started right up - I assume this was a stuck float. After that initial bump in the road it has started fine.
