Can someone please help me identify my Merc engine, I just purchased used engine Serial #7215617 was told is a 1988 and 25 Hp . the cover shows 18 HP, but was told it really is a 25 hp. Want to know if really is 25 HP and 1988.
The last year for the 18 was 1985 and then turned into a 20.
The starting serial number for 1985 was 6617631
and they never hit 7xxxxxx. In 1986 they started with A thru at least 1990 (which is where my reference ends).
Something is not right. Is this a US motor?
Look on the side of the carb for a little metal disc smaller than a dime. The serial number should appear there as well. Is it the same?
It is a 1984 model, built in Canada. The serial number is common to an 18hp and a 25hp. Your model number is MER 1025204. Ring mercury, they will tell you the HP.
I concur with Dunaruna... 1984... and the model number shows it as a 25hp. The model number for the 18 of that year is 1018204. The model number (1025204) also indicates it is a manual start, short (15") shaft engine.
