Im going to have to do an engine swap on a Cajun boat as the Merc. 150 has a blown powerhead and I just picked up another boat with a fresh rebuilt Merc. 115 and I am wondering if it would be safe to use a lifting ring on the flywheel stud to pick these motors up and support them through this transition, the 115 is a 1971 and the 150 is a 1978,any help would be greatly appreciated and thanks again.

Absolutely, the lifting ring is the correct way of hoisting them.

The lifting ring screws into the flywheel center hub, not onto the "flywheel stud".
