I'm looking to buy a new outboard in the 115, 125 or 130 range. I like the Johnson 130, but the mercury 125 is cheaper. Anyone have any thoughts as to which company makes the better outboard?

Re: Mercury or Johnson outboard

Leon, Depends on what boat you are putting the engine on. Both Merc or OMC make great engines. On a light boat I'd go with the Merc. The 4 cylinder Mercs only run on 2 cylinders till they get to about 1800 rpms. Doesn't do them much good for launching a heavy boat. If your boat is heavy go for the V4 block on the OMC is will have more low end grunt than the Merc. Top end will be close, but I'd give the edge to the OMC. I don't know where you are but try these guys. www.edsmarinesuperstore.com
