Re: Mercury Mark 6 Comet twin 5.9 hp questions
Hey guys
I'm still waiting to go home to FL but in the mean time I had to dig in.
Took off carb, Fuel pump , L/U
Fuel Pump-
Fuel pump diaphragm was hard as a rock. Wonder if it was just old age, or the evil ethanol monster took it's toll.
Carb-
Looks fine and clean but I will still get a kit. To clean behind the welch plug and such. Still had the old cork float!! Look like a simple clean and re-kit.
L/U-
Seems like abit of water intrusion. When I separated the L/U two pieces the oring was very loose on the top of one of the L/U pieces, but I might have to dig in and replace all the seals to make sure.
I have two pics and some questions about these areas.
Is this the tell tale? And what would be the best way to clean the tell-tale and cooling areas to make sure no old impeller or other stuff that got sucked up is out of the system?
Is this what the clutch spring should look like? Has one normal end and what seems to be a bent or curved end.
"Normal"
Bent/Curved
Lemme know what you guys think. Also I'll hit up the other older merc forums/places you guys told me about. Also it's nice to see Made in the U.S.A stamped into various parts off the engine, which we would see more of that now-a-days.
Thanks,
