My serial number is 5314656-5600966. Here is what i have done. clean fuel tank, new sending unit in tank, new fuel line, rebuilt carbs, rebuilt fuel pump, used rebuilt lower unit, and plugs. compression 95,95,100,100,110,95. is this ok??? I am in the process of rewiring the harness assembly 84-85537a1 and 84-85537a2, spark plug wires, all wires on the side with the ignition coils will be rewired and a new rectifier. is it ok to go to "home depot" and use the same gauge wire for the greens?

when i start it, i advance the throttle and she fires up. I let it run at about 1500-1700 rpm with the throttle still advanced. when i try to go to the engine and make adjustments while its running it cuts off. it cuts off when it tries to idle around 800-1000 rpm. I feel a miss that shakes the motor a bit as you can feel a bump in the floor. it is my indicator that it trying to idle out and that it is about to cut off. Can anyone tell me where else to look if my compression is ok?

I would try to turn needles in till feel touch then back out each 1 1/2 turns. I think your compression is little erratic but nothing of real concern.

YTry a diferent compression tester as your readings are low, make sure carb mixture screws are set at 1-1/2 turn out from a light seat as a starting point and connect a inline spark tester and see if spark drops when it dies...

Faztbullet I will try to recheck compression with another gauge. the gauge i used is linked below. When I check the first one it read 90 then i went down the line and then recheck the first one and it wen to 95. This was my first start since last December. I let the engine run for about 5 minutes before checking compression. I am buying the spark tester today and will let you know later this week what the result was.

Wanted to update you on the engine. I figure out that i needed to adjust the idle stop screw. it would not start in neutral even after running in for 5 minutes. I could only start it advancing the throttle. I notice that I needed to advance the throttle as far as it would go before it started. So i had a friend move the throttle so i can see at what point did the cable move when it was advanced, then i started to tighten the stop screw where the engine would start getting gas. Cold starts i still advance but it fires up in neutral now click, click booom.
I still have not recheck compression with another gauge yet, but i change the fuel to some new gas rather than last years. made new spark plug wires, and resolder the 2 yellow wires off the retifier.

achris Well here is a picture of my retifier connection to the stator wire. I solder the wires back and the reading with the ohm meter is in specs. I still have another stator that i purchase from amazon for 130.00. Since the reading of the current stator was in spec i will be returning the new one.

Ok, had another thought. What about the transfer port restrictors? Are they all still in place. (You need to pull the transfer port covers off to check)...

Yes check those bleed restrictors.---------I usually find a few missing.--------I install 8-32 stainless set screws in them when I put a motor together.--------Those do not fall out like the factory plastic ones.

Bleed restrictors are under the transfer covers. There are spots for 6 of them, but if I remember correctly (fat chance these days), I think you only install 5 of them.
