Hello all,

I have a 1997 sun tracker running a 2 stroke 75hp force 1996 motor. When I throttle up it trips back to neutral or out of gear, if I slowly throttle up after that it works ok. Is this a built in safety feature or do I need to have engine services? This is my first pontoon btw.

Likely sucking too much air into the prop.-----Possibly lower the engine.-----Trim full down till on plane.----Try a different prop ?

If it's actually popping out of gear, causing you to stop and shift the motor from neutral back into forward gear, that's a sign of a linkage or lower unit needing attention - SOON!

This is WAY different than the situation where the prop starts sucking air (maybe mounted too high) and the boat is just slowed prior to taking off again.

I believe you've got a worn out forward gear. You need to get your lower unit worked on.
