I need a new prop for my 150 salt water, well I don't need one but I should have a spare and I don't have one. I'll keep the aluminium one that came with the motor for the spare and use the new one for the main prop. The Enertia runs approx. $ 550.00 compared to around 3-350.00 for a stainless. Does anyone use one? Don't know if I should spend the xtra $200. or so for it. Has anyone gone from stainless to the Enertia? Need some input. The boat is a 2302 Trophy WA and is used in the Gulf of Mexico. Stainless or Enertia.

Re: Mercury Enertia Prop

When the enertia was released a lot of people with off shore boat's immediatley picked them up. Very few were satisfied with prop...not a bad prop but they went back to there rev 4 or vensura's. I believe they prefered the bite and lower planing speed of the rev 4....Merc rev 4

T.G.:

Sorry to muscle in on the OP's original post. I was wondering if the Enertia's were not as great performers as some of the tests had shown. I was wondering if you could share some insight...could save a guy a couple hundred dollars?

I'm currently doing a re-power and had thought an Enjertia might be on the short list. My boat is some what similar to Kenny's in weight and size...but I'm hanging a 175 e-tec on it..freshwater use only.

Thanks in advance for any information you can share.

Re: Mercury Enertia Prop

It is best that i say nothing... go to a offshore forum and do a search on the enertia prop. Most of those guys have large boats and large wallet's. If you read closely they have tried them and made there overall comments and stated what they have stuck with.

We all have our own opinion's likes and dislike's, In my own case i swear by a certain 4 blade SS....while a 3 blade is definatley 1 mph faster i spend 80-95% at planing speed...the prop is smoother and it has more midrange tourqe. For myself that is of more value than top speed.

Now if i could go from a 20p 4blade say at 55mph to a 23 pitch 3 blade ss pickup 4-5 mph in the same rpm band..I'd be a owner..;) But that is only a dream..:D

The Hull truth comes to mind here..;) In the interm id start a new thread on what your planning to do, there are some very intelligent people on this board that vast amounts of knowledge on outboard's...setback's and props that lend themselves to your particular hull and what you are looking for....top speed....smooth operation...good bite in rough water....skiing...wakeboarding..etc...etc.. Good luck..:)

Do a search on Solas props on this forum...lots of happy people

T.G.

Points well taken. Will be searching "The Hull Truth" for answers. I didn't want to appear to be highjacking the thread or put you in an "Ackward Position". Just saw an opportunity for more "Learnin'" :). Perhaps for the masses.

Thanks,

Re: Mercury Enertia Prop

I put a 20 pitch Enertia on a 20' Larson deck boat powered by a 150 Mercury Optimax saltwater engine and the difference is amazing. It takes off great and the top end is higher. It has great bow lift. It used to be like like driving a big tub but now the bow gets up and it flies (well 55 is flying for a deck boat). It came with a 21 pitch aluminum prop and it went 50, now goes 55. It is a lot more fun to drive. I have more top end and it takes off a little faster than it used to. It seems like it uses less gas too. I was pretty happy with it. I found a new on for $350 online.
