Hello fellow boaters,

This place looks like a wealth of information. Hopefully, there is someone that can help me with a conversion project.

I'm putting a 1993 50HP Force outboard on my pontoon and need help with wiring the Merc tilt & trim controls. There is a 4 wire cluster that comes from the control to the motor. The green/white wire lights my tester when the tilt switch is in down position, purple/white lights tester when in up position. There is a blue/white wire that lights when a switch marked "trailer" is depressed. What is this? Does it connect to anything in a Force motor with tilt and trim? The fourth wire is a brown(faded black?)/white. Is this a ground wire or something else? It doesn't carry any current from the switches. Thanks for any help.

Re: Mercury controls/Force moter.

Land,
the Force should have the same wiring on it. There should be a set of wires the same as the boat harness. The green and white match up to the green and white on the motor the same for the blue and white. Those are the only two you normally have to connect on a Merc or Force. I have not looked at a 93' 50hp but it should be standard.
Give a look under the cowling and see if you see any loose butt connectors. If there are plug the tilt trim into the same colors.

Normally these connector are located near where the large merc connector connects.

Re: Mercury controls/Force moter.

Thanks Hitman,
I found the green/white & blue/white wires on the motor, leading to the relays. The green/white to green/white works. I had to connect purple/white from control to blue/white on motor to raise it. The blue/white from control would raise it, except I had to push the trailer button to operate it that way. Do you know what the trailer button is supposed to do? I've never seen that on a control before. Thanks again.
