mercury control noise

i am new to boating , i have a 40 h 1994 merc 2 stroke. It is running well but last time out an alarm or sensor in the throttle controls started ringing . it wont go away and i cant see any problem with motor or control. Motor dosnt not apear to be running hot. does any body have a suggestion on what it is or what i can do?

Constant tone is overheat. Pulsing tone is oil related. Which is it?

it is a constant ring . i have a new water pump and impeller put in before i bought motor

Constant tone is overheat alarm. Could be the thermostats. If you have them, they aren't expensive and easy to replace.
