mercury classic fifty help

i have a classic fifty 87 model, it surges at higher rpm's. any response would be greatly appreciated.

Just a thought Big172. Have you checked the prop hub, could be it's slipping and momentarily causes a surge.<br />I have the same motor and had a surge on mine, it was the prop hub.<br /> Unless it's a fuel problem?

That's odd, I thought I responded yesterday. :confused: <br /><br />If your fuel pump hasn't been rebuilt before, it's way past due. They used rubber discs that puckered and leaked after a few years. The new ones are mylar and will probably outlast the boat. Kits are cheap, the job is easy, and common tools are all you need.

Last one I had that did that, I repaired the fuel pump with a check valve kit. It comes with gaskets and diaphrams usually.

thanks guys ! i going to rebuild the pump today and i am going to order a prop to. do any of you have any suggestion on pitch?
