I have 2 mercury classic 50 45hp outboards, one is a 1987 and the other is a 1989. The 87 is currently on my boat and I bought the 89 for parts. The guy I bought it off said the carbs were rebuilt before one of the bearing blew in the block so I wanted to just swap the carburetors from the 89 to the 87.
My manual says that both motors should have the "type B" carburetor with the integral fuel pump. But the 89 seems to have a fuel pump ( black box type) before the carburetors.
My question is can I just install the integral fuel pump carburetor form the 89 to the 87 and remove the black fuel pump? or just plug? without anything negative happening?
Any help is appreciated
Thank you
