I have a mercury blue band 80 hp it is about 74 to 75 it runs well when it starts ???
But now when I go to start it it will not fire up some time in the morining or on the water

So I have to spray engine start into the crab Most time with the idle on full while someone turns the motor over Then it will fire up ok and runs well I can turn it on and off and it starts with out needing to spary engine start or have the idle on full Some time i can leave it for a hour or more and it willstillfire up straighta way Some time i can i just give ita little choke But the take off is some time
a hassle as well you have to push the throttle at the right speed so it does not stall
But the MAIN ISSUE is once i get out ON the water and leave it sitting for a while after fishing it will not start again I then have to take the cover off and spray engine start and put the idle on full again and it seems harder to start when the motor is in the water then it is when it is out

I am not sure if i am using the right petrol I put in 96 with 400 mils of oil to 20 Liters of petrol should I be using 93 or 96 Could it be the petrol line taken in air ? from the tank to the carb?

This had happend before So That was the reason why i took it to a guy to look at

he mucked around with it and then it was starting ok but it semed That he had the idle up high so when i put it into gear it would take off but it was crunching into gear and stalling most time
so i took it back to a guy he replaced the slides in the carbs and put a second hand distrubutor in to it as one of the wires on the distubutor was broken and it was a sealed unit so I had to buy a second hand one which he fitted
He is a motor mechanic not a boat mechanic Now the boat seems to take off ok most times Or rather i can get it working but it is still not right
After he put the slides etc in he could not get it started either he said
so he drainedd the carb and sparyed enigine start and it fired uo he says it should be ok so i went out in it and again it wouldnot fire up on the water si i sat fora while just in case it was flooded then i sparyed the engine start and it fired up and i got back in i started it a few times no problem but then afterwaiting a while again it would not start So when i got home i did the spray thing again and away it went I just went out now and tried to start it after it has been sitting fora hour it would not start soI put the idle on the full with some choke and it sort off after a while started firing and started JUST So does it need a tune Obiviously the guy i gave it to does known what he is doing ?

First thing starting fluid NO-NO.put the motor all the way down pump the primer bulb till it is hard then give it it one or two more raise the cold start up half way hold the choke an turn the key should fire up.thiers a saying that thes motors can,t be flooded.

The old Mercs are a bear to start cold. Takes lots of fuel and a fully charged battery to get 'em going.

Make sure that your choke is operating and visually check that the choke plates are fully closing on BOTH carbs.

You need max RPM from the starter to fire it up. A weak battery or poor connections in the starting system will make matters worse.

Not sure what you mean by "replaced the slides in the carb"
