I have a 1996 115 h.p. Merc. Yesterday, a continuous alarm went off and wont stop. Its getting plenty of water through it and the heads are staying cool. I checked the oil pump, and oil is dripping out of it at steady pace. Should it be getting more than a steady drip through it? Faulty alarm? Any ideas? Thanks Todd

Re: Mercury Alarm

Solid alarm is overtemp. On my '02 90 hp the overtemp is midway down on the left side of the water jacket. Brown wire coming out of it. Open that circuit where you find a connector.

Horn stops, shorted overtemp sensor. Horn continues to blow then you have a pinched wire to ground (shorted) somewhere or the warning module is defective.

Oil warning is intermittent. That's how you tell he difference.

Never checked oil output like that. My book says the clear hose at the oil pump should be full with no bubbles.

Re: Mercury Alarm

A regulator on it's way out can also trigger the alarm.Mine did and as soon as I replaced the regulator the alarm never went off again.

That sounds correct to me. Earlier this year I was having fits with my charging system and overheat alarms. After replacing the regulator with an aftermarket regulator (which didn't function and was returned), I ended up replacing the stator and regulator with OEM parts. Haven't had an overheat alarm since.

Good luck!
