mercury 90

I have an outboard mercury 90 2 stroke. 2007 model. When I turn the key , all i get is a clicking noise from motor. motor itself will not start ,yet it will start by using the pull rope. Need help .

Sounds like the solenoid or starter is not working.Test light,across the terminals as someone turns the key.
If you have power on the main lugs the starter could be bad.No power on both lugs it's the solenoid.J

Welcome to iboats. :)

The most common, and easiest to fix, cause of that is bad connections of the battery cables. Take both ends of both cables loose, scrub them shiny, and reconnect. The worst offender is usually where the battery ground cable bolts to the engine block.

If that doesn't fix it, then connect jumper cables directly from the battery to the starter and engine block to see if the starter is good. No turn, bad starter. Starter works now, replace solenoid.

How about checking battery ? Is it fully charged ?
