Hi...I am new to this forum, and not so motor smart. I have a 1984 Mercury 90 Inline 6 with cooling problem. Water does not come out pisser full force at times. I changed water pump impeller, and no improvement. Does this motor have a thermostat? If it does, where is it?
Thanks for any info, Zanecf

That motor should run dead cold at idle and warmer at cruise speed. If you changed the impeller, gaskets, wearplate and inspected the upper waterpump for wear, it should be cooling sufficiently. You might remove the wrap cowl and put your hand on the exhaust cover (long cover on port side of motor), after a run, and see that it remains cool or lukewarm.

I did replace imepeller, gaskets, and wearplate. I also relaced top half of waterpump...the half were the impeller goes. Is this half what you call upper waterpump? I will check exhust cover temp this afternoon. Thanks for your info, Zanecf
