I have it's baby brother, the 7.5HP. It has proven to be bullet proof. I run this engine about 1 day a month (between 6-8hour fishin trips) on average. It is mounted on an antique 12Foot Lonstar Sportster with enclosed bow. It is underpowered,but then,I'm not ever in that boat to speed around, i use to fish the skinny water.
In the years my father inlaw had it, it has had only routine maintainence done (impellers pulgs ect). I've had to de-goo the carb a few times, but that was my fault,for letting it sit with fuel in it.
You could probably sell it locally for around 400bucks. But I would keep her if I were you. MOF, I wish mine was the 9.9HP,as that would be perfect for this baby bass rig of mine.This one here;

We find that over all the 9.8 ans 7.5's are not as reliable as the similar age Johnson/Evinrude 9.9. They frequently have cooling problems and the electronic ignition sometimes goes flukey. They are ok but we have decided that we won't sell them any more at our dealership because of too many problems after the sale. If we get one on trade we sell it off for parts.
