mercury 850 85 hp lost throttle

H i i am having problems just bought a boat it has a 1980 85 hp mercury out board tried it out and cleaned tank and new water separator fuel filter took it out and was slow at first then it ran great then about halve tank of gas i had it full throttle it cut out to about 1/4 throttle and no more still idle fine starts back up fine cant get no more throttle idle or in gear going please help family want to get back on the water .

How did you clean the tank? Sounds like it could have water in the carbs. Not sure if any could get past the separator. It could have been overheating as well. If you just bought it you will need to replace the water pump impeller regardless of running condition. Maybe one of these other guys can help you more,good luck.

it has a brand new impeller in it is is pee a good soild strem
