Bought a Mercury 80hp today. This is for my first boat. You can see this at "our project"
This is a fix-r-upper so many questions will follow.

Pics come with it.
Looks like piston nr1 had a touch from the sparkplug?? Not a big problem for a 2stroke engine???
I can't seem to find the serialnr on the internet.

I need to buy new sparkplugs, they are not with the engine.
In the round black plug comes what cable??

Piston touching a sparkplug is a HUGE problem.-------Best to check that out before spending a single $ on it.

There was 1 sparkplug in the engine and that was the wrong one. Maybe to long? I misplaced my question in that one. I did not mention before that it probably comes with the faulty sparkplug. How can I test it with the right sparkplugs?? Just bolt them in and then turn the motor by hand?

There was a NGK BUHW in it. Not the -2 . I don't was the difference is between these 2. Is there a difference in lenght?

I just tryed it, installed the sparkplug and turn the engine by hand but could not hear anything, turning went without any problem.

Can I do a compressiontest by turning the engine by hand?

Use a rope on the flywheel to spin it .---------Yes you can do a compression test by pulling on the rope.

The proper sparkplugs look like this; the black connector is for the electrical hookup from the control box, if you didn't get one with the boat go back to seller and demand one. The compression should be 120 psi and the difference between cylinders should only be 10%. I don't have a good feeling about this motor if the PO can't put in the right plugs what else has he buggered up? Check the lower unit gear oil before you startup and do not run the motor without water muffs attached. permagap.jpg

If the engine runs and the propellor doesn't turn, what could be wrong? Are there a lot of possibilities. Is a Johnson 110hp 2 stroke
