Ive just purchased a new to me glastron v156 with a 65 horse merc on it. I havent had a chance to mess with it due to the weather. But to my understanding it will not cold start without a squirt or two of fuel in the carb. After its started it will aparrantly start fine the remainder of the day. My best guess is the carb gasket. But i know very little about out boards. So any help is welcomed.

I don't have the serial number on hand. I was told the choke worked just fine

For motors from the 80's back, pump the line bulb until it's hard, lift the cold start lever to almost full forward (little one on side of control box) press and hold the choke button and turn the key to start position; when motor starts release choke, lower the cold start lever, and let motor idle.

If the choke was working fine, you shouldn't be needing to spray fuel into the carb to get it started. I would be looking to see if the floats are set correctly.

Time to tear apart the carbs completely, remove everything, clean all openings with spray cleaner, blow all openings with air.
Get a rebuild kit, iboats.com has them, and put it back together with the factory service manual right in front of you, don't forget to adjust the float.

I wouldn't tear anything apart - Yet. Try the proper method of cold starting first.

Mercs like a a good firm bulb and need the Cold Start Lever raised at least straight up or a little more and the Choke button pressed while cranking. As soon as the motor pops, release the Choke and most times she will start if the mechanics are OK. Since the seller said she started the rest of the day, I think the proper cold start procedure needs to be used,

OK so I finally got my hands on the boat. Unfortunately the key was lost so I've got to get another key made. However upon inspection of the outboard it seems the power choke will not close the choke on the top carb all the way. I feel like this could possibly be the issue. How do I adjust that?

Got the motor serial number so we can find a parts diagram to see the choke parts and how to adjust.

Good for you, to notice the power choke on top carb will not close all the way.

Remove the cover on motor, there should be a plate on the inside of motor ,we have a Force 125 it's where the shift and throttle cables enter the motor on bottom, You will find it, if it's oily you may have to clean a little to find it.
