Hi Y'all. Mike here.
I bought my boat Bass tracker new in 2014 from Bass Pro. The boat ran fine for nearly five years until the first time that I brought it out of hibernation this spring. A friend and I launched early in a tournament and went up river for about 10 miles with no issues. We trolled around for about a 1/2 hour and after no bites we decided to head back to the dock and hit up the store 'cause the bugs were awful and we wanted some skeeter spray. I turned the key and got the normal startup beep followed by one looooooong beep and the engine would not fire. Turned over fine but would not crank. We took off the cowling to see if there was anything visible that stood out to us and saw nothing. I check all the wiring to ensure everything was secure and saw nothing. Made sure oil level was good and nothing notable there. I tried a few more times to start it and each time it gave that long continuous beep. I had cell service so I decided to call bass pro since I knew the repair shop was open that Saturday morning. I explained the situation and the tech told me it sounded like an over heating problem. I told him that was odd because we only ran about ten miles and then trolled for a half hour. He told me to check all the connections, battery and all, which we'd already done. All the while we're continuously trying to crank it. After about ten minutes on the phone with the tech it fired up and ran good with no alarm sound. We made it back to the dock to get the bug spray and the damn store was closed. Go figure. We contemplated whether or not we wanted to risk going back out and against our better judgment cranked it up and took off. We ended up about 12 miles from the launch and started casting and trolling. After about another half hour nothing was hitting so we decided to head back to the dock since the weigh in was approaching. Same thing happened no fire and continuous beep. Lucky for us we were fishing with my buddies coworkers and they saw us and offered to tow us in. We got back, got the boat trailered and had lunch at the outing. I decided to go out the the parking area to see if it would fire and sure enough it cranked right up. I was truly puzzled so I looked up everything I could on the alarm codes in the service manual and it keeps pointing me to an overheating issue. Well I got it home and this past weekend I replaced all my lube, oil and filter and put in a new thermostat hoping that it was a thermostat issue. After all that I hooked up my water and ran it at idle for about 10 minutes at first,(water stream was just fine and no excessive heat in the stream) turning it off and waiting for that tell-tale beep to come back to which it did not. I decided to run it for about another 15 minutes to see if the alarm would come on and to my joy it did not. I thought, great, it must've been the thermostat. I disconnected my water put my hose away and worked in the yard for about 15 minutes and decided I would try to crank it again. Whataya know, that dreaded alarm was back in action. I decided rather than risk damage to the engine I'd better back off and seek some experienced help. I don't want to pay someone for something I'm mechanically inclined to fix on my own but I suspect hooking it up to a diagnostic tool at a repair shop could give me an immediate answer. My next thought is to replace the impeller, so any suggestions for what else could be the issue are greatly appreciated and welcomed.
