Mercury 500 thunderbolt 70s black and red won’t pee water

I put a new pump impeller know water out pipe. Took bottom off and hooked hose up to copper pipe. Still no water out pipe. Put weed whacker line way in the wee pipe way way in still no water.

make sure the key was in the impeller?

I checked that. But as I said I bypassed the pump by hooking the garden hose straight onto the copper pipe.

Those telltales do clog easily. The important exit for the water is the gratings above the antiventilation plate, and thru the prop. Did water come out those places?

You can pull the telltale hose off the cylinder head and see if water exits there as well.

Are you test running in a bucket ?----On a hose ?----On a boat floating in the lake ?

Because I have the gearbox off it’s like a waterfall. But if it was o. It would come out those grates.

I tested with muffs nothing. Tested in drum nothing. Tested with gearbox and hose hooked directly onto copper pipe nothing.
