Mercury 50 H.P serial number decode

Hi all, I found this site yesterday and saw lots of great value of all of the contributions, I have been involved with outboard engines and boating since the early 60's. I come from a seafaring family but never got my Sea Legs. The best I can do is fresh water and sight of land in my gazing direction.

I need to decipher my serial number for a 50 H.P Mercury Outboard engine. The serial number is 0A741216. If possible, please provide 'all' details of this engine.

That s/n comes up as:

MERCURY - ( 50 H.P. (1988 ))
Serial No: 0A741216 Model No: 1050412BC

Thank you for the reply's. I was able to get the correct service manual for the engine and just got in from 'Winterizing' it.

Now onto how this 'Auto Blend' works...
