mercury 50 from 1977, the problem is that the lower cylinder draws in a little water. I replaced the exhaust baffle and made gaskets of 1.5 mm gasket, so now the edges of the baffle do not fit 100% on the cylinders, there is a gap of say 1 mm, maybe a little more. Is this perhaps the reason why water appears in the lower cylinder?

in the picture I circled the edge that does not fit the cylinders 100%

The exhaust baffle can get warped and allow water into the cylinders. You can try to sand them flatter, to some extent. Marine silicone on the gaskets can be a last resort.

The good news is that the gaskets for the exhaust cover and baffle are avail.
