Hello i have a 1990 mercury 4hp single cylinder 2stroke.
Today i took off the lower unit to check the impellor for any cracks breakages etc.
When i was moving the lower unit ,i accidently lifted it by the shift rod !!!!!
Now i cannot seem to be able to engage the gears F.N.R by moving the rod ?
Being as i lifted it up by the shift rod and obviously moved something in the gearbox, do i
have to take out the propellor shaft ? or is there another way to get the rod back in its proper place ?
i have been twisting ,turning pushing pulling etc while the drive shaft is being turned both ways etc and
nothing seems to be going back into place.
Is this a case of prop shaft out, or give it a walolop with big hammer ?????
