I searched through the many alarm post and didn't see this...

I have a 40HP Mercury ELPT 0T436843 with a constant alarm... I unplugged the brown and tan wire from the sending unit at the engine head and the alarm kept sounding.

I then traced it back to the oil tank... I unbolted it and pulled this out

oil.jpg

is this telling me the oil reservoir is empty? cause it is full... So i am guessing this is bad cause when i unplug it the alarm quits....

TIA

Re: Mercury 40HP alarm

A common fault is adhesive failure, the magnet on the bottom of the oil level float fell off and lays on/near that magnetic switch, telling the alarm module that the tank is low on oil.

It is next to impossible to repair, most simply replace the tank assy, that is a LOT quicker, easier, and more reliable repair than to attempt to remove the float.
