Mercury 40 4hp help

I bought a 40 4hp merc probably early 70's model...the guy i bought it from didnt know much about it other than it ran the last time it was used. My question is i have this little brass plug that was under the motor cover in a plastic bag and i dont know where it goes??

It defintely looks like some kind of oil plug as it has a little red seal gasket on it just not sure where it goes and cant seem to find alot of info.

Drain plug on the front of the carburetor ?

Check all over for a corresponding threaded hole.

My guess is the cover bolt for the high speed jet (Nr. 32) check that part 34 (fixed high speed jet) is in place before installing.
Could be a spare for whatever reason.

Ok I'll check those out and i had considered it might be a spare as i looked at every nook and cranny to find a hole that didn't have a bolt in it but couldnt find one...thanks for the info

This is something that you don't normally have a spare for - 1 carb 1 cover bolt - I wonder what else the PO has done to this motor?
